Newton, a former Florida Gator who made a stop at a junior college last season, completed 9-of-14 passes for 186 yards. He also rushed for 171 yards on 15 carries for the Tigers (1-0), who went 8-5 last year and are nationally ranked to start a season for the seventh time in the last eight years.

Michael Dyer carried the ball 14 times for 95 yards and a score. Mario Fannin hauled in four passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns, while Quindarius Carr caught two passes for 87 yards and score.

Ryan Aplin connected on 28-of-42 passes for 278 yards and one touchdown for the Red Wolves (0-1), who posted a 4-8 record last season, their worst showing since going 3-8 in 2004.

Derek Lawson and Jermaine Robertson each ran for a score. Dwayne Frampton caught eight passes for 74 yards and a touchdown, while Allen Muse tallied 80 receiving yards on four catches.

With their 27-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl XLIII, the Steelers became the latest NFL champion. But believe it or not, oddsmakers from online sports book MySportsbook.com don't have the Steelers the favorites to win Super Bowl XLIV next season.

That honor belongs to the New England Patriots, who are 8/1 favorites to win despite not even qualify for the postseason in 2008.
